Dr. Horikawa Dr. Yasushi Horikawa

Dr. Horikawa is a technical counselor of Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), Tokyo Japan. He graduated from the University of Tokyo with a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering. He has worked in the field of spacecraft design for many years. He contributed to the successful implementation of Japanese meteorological satellite programs and the Earth observation programs as well as the international space station program as a program manager. After that, he had been responsible for operation and utilization of all the application satellite programs as an executive director of JAXA, including Earth observations, communications and broadcasting, and global positioning satellites. Currently, he is advising to the activities of the Japanese application satellite development and utilization programs. He is a professor of Tokai University and will also serve as Chaiman of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN COPUOS) for 2012-2013.
