Amal Chandran, Ph.D.

Amal Chandran is a Project Manager at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) at the University of Colorado in Boulder, USA and affiliate faculty at the Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences. At LASP, he oversees the development of CU's International Satellite Program in Research and Education (INSPIRE). INSPIRE is a consortium of Universities from around the world aiming to develop a university led satellite constellation for scientific studies. Amal also serves as LASP's Project Manager for the first INSPIRESat, a 3U cubesat, carrying an instrument suite for making ionospheric measurements scheduled for flight in 2018. Other tasks include development of CU's Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on Spacecraft Design scheduled for launch in first quarter of 2017. He has also supported multiple proposals to NASA cubesat and small explorer AO's as project manager/engineer. Prior to joining LASP, he worked for the University of Alaska and the National Centre for Atmospheric Research, focusing on modelling and observations of the stratosphere and mesosphere. His research interests are in the field of upper atmosphere dynamics and spectral imaging of the atmosphere. He holds a PhD in Aerospace engineering from the University of Colorado.
